Few people out there can argue that, although far past it’s best, The Simpsons is one of the cultural cornerstones of modern society.
I shudder to think what will happen when someone somewhere finally pulls the plug on that lovable family from Springfield. Riots may occur, I’m serious.
Anyways, turning 15 this year is one of the greatest games of the PS2/Xbox era of consoles: The Simpsons Hit & Run.
It’s a simple idea, GTA for kids. Who doesn’t want that?!?! You get to tear around Springfield, which is chocked full of things you recognise from the show from Apu’s Kwik-e-Mart to Moe’s Tavern and cause mayhem as your favourite character from the show.
As you progress you unlock new vehicles that you’re sure to remember too. This game is literally nostalgia mixed with GTA-esque gameplay that’s been watered down for kids. It’s crammed full of that awesome Simpsons wit too and even boasts a turn from the entire voice cast too.
And it’s amazing. I’ve played it again recently with my little girl and we LOVED it. If you’re feeling old from the revelation that this game is now 15, I apologise.
The only way to cheer yourself up is to dig out your old console and load this bad boy up. It’ll be an epic afternoon of fun before you get sick of the graphics and go back to something that looks a tad more…..modern.
